Le rapport signal sur bruit (signal/bruit) est un indicateur qui sert à évaluer la qualité d’une mesure en comparant la puissance d’un signal à celle du bruit de mesure et est souvent exprimé en décibels.

Optical signal to noise ratio
Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio (OSNR) measures the quality of an optical signal by comparing the optical power of an optical signal to the optical noise power and is often expressed in decibels.
In the optical fiber communication, realizing very low bit error rates (BER) demands a sufficiently high OSNR at the output detector. Increasing the OSNR could be attained by using low noise optical components, increasing the optical input power, or removing any avoidable noise sources by deployment of optical bandpass filters.
OSNR differs from SNR in terms of the type of the signal (optical versus electrical) being considered for determining the strength of the signal to the noise level.
