Définition
Le commutateur optique est une classe de dispositifs qui dirigent un signal optique d’un port d’entrée vers un certain port de sortie. La commutation peut être appliquée à tout le signal optique ou à certaines composantes de celui-ci. Par exemple, dans un commutateur sélectif en longueur d’onde, certaines bandes spectrales du faisceau d’entrée sont acheminées vers différents ports de sortie.

Optical switch is a class of components that switch an optical signal from an input port to a certain output port (which is part of an array in the size of two or more). The switching can be applied to all the beam’s components or to a more specific one. For instance, in a Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS), the spectral elements of the input beam are routed to different output ports.
