Thoughts for example have intentionality - they are about things ( typically other than themselves, although a tought's being about itself is not rules by definition)

Many other mental states notably beliefs, desires, and intentions are about things and so have intentionality

Intentionality is sometimes regarded as the feature that distinguishes mental states from non-mental ones.
