Définition

En statistique, on place un signe diacritique ˆ (accent circonflexe) au dessus du symbole d'une variable qui représente un estimateur (ou la valeur estimée).

L'usage est d'appeler ŷ la variable "y chapeau".

Compléments

Par exemple, ŷ valeur estimée d'une variable réponse (voir variable dépendante) dans un modèle de régression linéaire.
