Définition
Le filtre optique désigne un dispositif qui permet de transmettre ou de bloquer la lumière en fonction de ses propriétés. Ils servent à améliorer la performance des systèmes en s’assurant que seul le signal désiré est vu par le détecteur. Par exemple, dans les communications optiques en espace libre, le signal d’information transmis se situe dans la bande C. C’est pourquoi des filtres sont utilisés devant le détecteur pour empêcher la détection de signaux optiques indésirables en dehors de la longueur d’onde à détecter.
Dans notre quotidien, la crème solaire est un exemple de filtre que l’on utilise pour bloquer les rayons UV.
