La datafication fait référence aux outils, technologies et processus collectifs utilisés pour transformer une organisation en une entreprise basée sur les données. Ce mot à la mode (buzzword) décrit une tendance organisationnelle qui consiste à définir la clé des opérations de base de l’entreprise par une dépendance globale aux données et à l’infrastructure qui s’y rapporte.

Elle est également connue sous le nom de « datafy ». Une organisation qui applique la datafication est dite « datafiée ».
Les organisations ont besoin de données et d’extraire des connaissances et des informations pour réaliser des processus commerciaux cruciaux. Une organisation utilise également des données pour la prise de décision, les stratégies et d’autres objectifs clés. La datafication implique que dans un paysage moderne axé sur les données, la survie d’une organisation dépend du contrôle total sur le stockage, l’extraction, la manipulation et l’extraction des données et des informations associées.
