Définition

En informatique, en recherche opérationnelle et en intelligence artificielle, l'optimisation mathématique ou la programmation mathématique, ou plus simplement l'optimisation, est la sélection du meilleur choix (par rapport à des critères) parmi un ensemble de possibilités. Dans le cas le plus simple, un problème d'optimisation consiste à maximiser ou minimiser une fonction réelle en choisissant systématiquement des valeurs d'entrée dans un ensemble et en calculant la valeur de la fonction. L'optimisation mathématique est à la base des algorithmes d'apprentissage automatique.
